  • Fowler High School had four boys' golfers shoot in the 80s as the Grizzlies won their annual home tournament Friday at Cottonwood Links in Fowler.

    Fowler had a team score of 250 and it also had the individual medalist in Brandon Grasmick, who shot an 81. It also had the second-place finisher in Dean Klinkerman with an 82, the fifth-place finisher in Lane Sharp with an 87 and the sixth-place finisher in James Baca with an 88.

    Kyle Taylor finished in eighth place with a 90.

    Other Grizzlies who played in the home tournament were Chris Bolin, who shot a 103, Kyle Benesch, who recorded a 119, and Jay Hardy, who fired a 137.

    Pueblo West finished a distant second place with 280, Dolores Huerta was third with 279 and Rye was fourth with 283.

    Las Animas took fifth place in the team standings with 295. Leading the Trojans was Josh Japhet with a 96, followed by Justice Pryor with a 99, Bubba Martinez with a 100 and Brendan Garcia with a 103.

    Swink was next in the team scoring with 300. Dillon O'Neal had the Lions' best individual score with a 97, followed by Bryar Kirkland with a 98. Collin O'Neal shot a 105 and Kyle Schrock had a 109.

    Other Lions who played in the tournament included Quinton Stewart with a 110, Tony Cabrera with a 113, Josh Knabenshue with a 114 and John Jackson with a 117.

    Canon City was seventh in the team scoring with 307, followed by Kiowa with 315 and Lamar with 316.

    Rocky Ford was 10th in the team standings with 319. The Meloneers were led by Marcus Torrez with a 99, with Kavan Hollis scoring a 107, Seth Finnell with a 113 and Randy Robinson with a 120.

    Pueblo County shot 339 and Eads did not record a team score.

    All of the local boys' golf teams will play at the Lamar Invitational today and at the Swink Invitational on Tuesday. The Swink meet will begin at 9 a.m. at the La Junta Golf Course.
