On Saturday, Aug. 25, State Senate candidate Crestina Martinez hosted a campaign update/meet-and-greet at Java Jackie's Restaurant in Las Animas. Martinez is currently running for the newly formed Senate District 35 seat.
Martinez currently serves on the Costilla County Commission and was appointed by Governor Hickenlooper to serve on the Colorado State Board of Health. Prior to taking office she served on the Colorado Acequia Association board and has been elected to various leadership positions including: San Luis Valley County Commissioners Association chair, San Luis Valley Council of Governments secretary/treasurer, and Colorado Counties Inc. Southern District chair and vice chair encompassing 15 counties in south central and southeastern Colorado.
In addition to her work in public service, Martinez raises grass-finished natural cattle and hay at the South Ute Mountain Ranch in San Acacio Viejo with her family.
