The Las Animas Police Department was investigating several arsons in Las Animas, including the fire at LA Oil and the destruction of Bill Long’s pickup.

 

The proposed plan to establish an accelerated release program for prisoners raised concerns.

 

Bent’s Old Fort celebrated Hispanic Heritage Day.

 

 

October

 

Candidates for the Las Animas School Board and City Council were running for office.

 

Eight Las Animas High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society.

 

Ron and Margie Crespin of Hasty became the new owners of NAPA.

 

Community support was requested for the Bent County Ambulance Service.

 

November

 

McClave volleyball team qualified for the eighth straight trip to the Regional competition and won the Region B championship.

 

Referendum 5-A passed, combining the Las Animas/Bent County Fire Department and the Bent County Ambulance Service.

 

The Las Animas High School Student Council honored veterans at a Veteran’s Day ceremony.

 

December

 

The Las Animas Police Department requested assistance from the public in setting up a narcotics K-9 unit.

 

The Las Animas Lady Trojans won the Holiday Shootout.

 

The McClave Lady Cardinals won the Holiday Tournament.

 

The Las Animas School Board voted to delay the decision to demolish the old Bent County High School until their January meeting.
