The McClave School Board met Monday night and accepted the resignation of Family and Consumer Science teacher and guidance counselor Anita Larrick.
Larrick has taught at McClave for 20 years and while retiring, will continue on 110 day contracts for the next year.
The board also approved insurance for retiring teachers who will continue to teach under 110 day contracts.
The board discussed trading in one of the yellow school buses and selling one of the school vehicles and approved letting Superintendent Terry Weber seek out bids.
Going into executive session, the board decided to keep the fall and winter coaches, while promoting Shawn Randel to head boys basketball coach. Kilee Randel was hired as cheerleading coach.
A set of playground equipment for the preschool and one climbing apparatus for the elementary playground were approved to be purchased using a grant received from Bent County Social Services.
The $20,000 grant will help purchase the equipment and Weber said there is the possibility of having $5,000 more in funding.
"I don't see how we can lose," Weber said.
Weber also informed the board that he submitted a $305,000 application for a grant to construct a new preschool.
The preschool has been found to have elevated levels of radon in it, but Weber said the levels pose no threat to the children.
Weber told the board that the radon will either be mitigated by spending approximately $8,000 to fill in the cracks in the floor with polyurethane or by receiving a grant for construction of a new school.
The problem with the polyurethane is that it will block access to the heating and plumbing system, so Weber said the hope is that the grant will be approved and construction can begin late this summer.
"Hopefully that baby comes through," he said.
