Five generations gathered to celebrate the birthday of Josephine Arguello at Bent County HealthCare Center on March 4.

Arguello celebrated her 100th birthday with family members and guests, including granddaughter Glenda Lucero, daughter Gloria Saiz and great-granddaughter Debbie Eck.

Arguello came to Las Animas from New Mexico in a covered wagon with her mother, father and sisters.

She was married to Lee for over 50 years and now has six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Arguello loves flowers, Lucero said and prays for everybody.

“She loves life itself,” Lucero said.

Pictures sat on a table for all to view, including a picture from Arguello’s first communion.

Arguello spent seven years in the hospital with tuburculosis, yet never lost her love for life, Lucero said.

On her 95th birthday, Lucero said her grandmother wanted to dance, so Lucero danced with her.

“She said it completed her life,” Lucero said.

This time, Arguello got to listen to a mariachi band perform and was greeted by family members who brought flowers and cards.
