Governor John Hickenlooper is declaring November “Hire A Veteran First” Month.
Governor John Hickenlooper is declaring November “Hire A Veteran First” Month. With Veterans Day on Nov. 11, this month has long been a time to focus on connecting veterans with employers and with the training and resources that can lead to a good paying job.
This November, the Department of Labor and Employment is strengthening those connections with an upcoming job fair and the introduction of a newly designed website that provides employment and training information and a variety of resources for veterans.
The website being introduced is Hire A Colorado Vet (http://hireacoloradovet.gov/). At this site, veterans can learn about statewide job fairs in November and beyond. On the redesigned site, veterans can learn about workforce services and the many resources available to them. Employers can find information on hiring vets and how they enhance our state’s workforce.
“Employers who have hired veterans will tell you they made a real investment in their business with each hire,” said Department of Labor and Employment Executive Director Ellen Golombek. “Whether our services are delivered face-to-face or online, we are proud of our long-standing commitment to the men and women of the Armed Forces. Our approach is veterans helping veterans.”
Colorado businesses are looking for the best employees, and veterans are ideal candidates. More than 40 Local Veteran Employment Representatives and Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialists are in state and county run Workforce Centers across Colorado, ready to provide assistance. These Veterans Employment Specialists provide assistance to veterans in finding employment, acquiring skills and planning for the future.
Each year, these specialists – who are themselves veterans – assist veterans, offering a full spectrum of services. In the last 12 months, 26,945 received services through their local Workforce Center.
Employers interested in learning more about hiring veterans and what these job candidates can contribute to a business should contact their nearest Workforce Center or go to http://hireacoloradovet.gov/ for more information.
