Ark Valley Home School Choir has grown into a dynamic group of students ranging in age from preschool-12th grade. This is the third year for AVHSC under the direction of April Forgue. The fall/winter semester includes nearly 40 students who have attended weekly one-hour practices. Some families have consistently committed to traveling to participate, coming from as far away as Ordway, McClave, and Rocky Ford and outlying areas.

These students are a talented Christian group that incorporates many different genres, including spirituals, folk music, classics, and lots and lots of fun songs. This year they have expanded to three age groups: elementary, junior high, and high school. Each group has age appropriate songs and encourages high quality music with an emphasis on growth, fun and friendship. This semester students were thrilled to participate in beginning guitar lessons under the tutelage of Vickie Tague.

AVHSC will be performing their 2016 Christmas program, “Christmas with Handel,” Dec. 8, 7 p.m., at First Church of the Nazarene of La Junta. The program will feature selections of music from Handel’s "Messiah," as well as a German, French, and a “surprise” language song from the young elementary class. Plan to attend the free concert offered to the Arkansas Valley community as a gift from the AVHSC, and join them for food and fellowship afterward.
