The Las Animas Lady Trojans squared off this week in the Centauri Mountain Top Tournament. The Lady Trojans faced three big-time opponents in the tourney, and grew tremendously as a team.

The Las Animas Lady Trojans squared off this week in the Centauri Mountain Top Tournament. The Lady Trojans faced three big-time opponents in the tourney, and grew tremendously as a team.

The first game against Salida was fairly one-sided on the scoreboard. The Lady Trojans amassed a mere 23 points while the Salida Spartans dominated with 80. The Lady Trojans were led by Leah Vida in points with seven, and Vida and Haylie Stwalley each added five rebounds.

In the second game against the Center Vikings, the Ladies kept the margin closer, but still fell 32-54. Vida led in points with eight and also pulled down 10 boards.

The final game, against Basalt, was the highest scoring game for the Lady Trojans, despite their loss. Vida again led the Ladies with 14 points, and Angelica Martinez pulled down 11 rebounds.

Martinez, with her 11 rebound Saturday, and a solid set of performances over the duration of the weekend, was selected to the All-Tournament team.

The Ladies take the floor against the Custer County Bobcats this Friday, Dec. 9 in Westcliffe. Varsity games start at 7 p.m.
