On January 23, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Bent County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls indicating two parties in separate locations had sustained serious injury due to assault.

On January 23, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Bent County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls indicating two parties in separate locations had sustained serious injury due to assault. Deputies and emergency personnel arrived on the scene in the 700 block of Carson Avenue and also in the 400 block of Locust Avenue in Las Animas. Deputies were able to speak to the injured parties prior to emergency personnel transporting both male subjects to Ark Valley Regional Medical Center.

Deputies were able to ascertain as a result of conversing with these parties that the incident occurred at 3rd Street and Locust Avenue. The scene was then secured by law enforcement officials and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was contacted for assistance. CBI agents arrived on scene during the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 24 to process the intersection of 3rd Street and Locust Avenue for evidence
