With two weeks left in the regular season, the Las Animas Lady Trojans have the opportunity to make a splash with six games to go.

If a team is going to make a push to go deep in the post-season, now is the time to begin. With two weeks left in the regular season, the Las Animas Lady Trojans have the opportunity to make a splash with six games to go. Three of the games are to be played this week (one before publishing). This past week, the Lady Trojans hosted both the Crowley County Lady Chargers and the Rocky Ford Lady Meloneers.

Friday night's game against the Lady Chargers was a close battle. Both teams had the lead and it came down to managing peaks and valleys of performance. In the end, the Lady Chargers emerged victorious by a meager four points: 35-39.

Leading the Ladies were Fabiola Hernandez, Haylie Stwalley, and Leah Vida with seven points apiece. Vida also tacked on seven rebounds to lead the Lady Trojans in that category.

The following night, the Lady Meloneers of Rocky Ford came to town. In the first quarter, the Lady Trojans came out gunning as they put up nearly 20 points immediately. The next quarter was stagnant as both teams struggled to score and together, the teams only managed to score eight points. After halftime, the Lady Meloneers tried to claw back and they outscored the Lady Trojans by two, but the fourth quarter belonged to the Lady Trojans as they emerged victorious 42-37.

Haylie Stwalley racked up 15 points and three blocks in the matchup against the Meloneers, while Leah Vida led in rebounds with six.

After the victory Saturday and the close game on Friday, the tone of Lady Trojans basketball team in the hallways of Trojan Country has changed. Looking ahead, the Lady Trojans are optimistic about making a run in the playoffs and surprising some teams both in the regular and post-season.

This week, the Lady Trojans travel to Fowler on Jan. 31 and to Hoehne on Feb. 3. Game time for both of these is 5 p.m. Finally, the Lady Trojans stay home to host Simla on Saturday, Feb. 4. Games will begin at 2 p.m.
