A Kansas woman died and another person was injured in a two-car crash on Feb. 10 in Bent County.

Colorado State Patrol said Denise Fenner, 47, of Garden City, Kansas, suffered fatal injuries in the crash which happened near milepost 406 on Colorado Highway 50.

Darryl Fenner, 27, of Garden City, Kansas, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

According to CSP, a 2007 Toyota Camry, driven by Darryl Fenner, was westbound on Colorado Highway 50 approaching the rear of a Dodge Avenger, which was also traveling westbound, around 6:23 p.m. on Feb. 10.

Darryl Fenner attempted to pass the Dodge but failed to do so and the Toyota collided with the left side of the Dodge. Darryl Fenner then overcorrected to the left, causing the Toyota to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction and collide with the guardrail prior to traveling off the south side of the road, according to CSP.

A front passenger, a 17-year-old female of Garden City, Kansas, was wearing her safety belt and was uninjured. A backseat passenger, John Fenner, 49, of Garden City, Kansas, was also uninjured in the crash. Denise Fenner was the right rear passenger in the Toyota and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Dodge, Mario Morales, 19, of Lamar, was uninjured.

Alcohol and speed are being considered as factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
