La Junta Tribune-Democrat, Fowler Tribune, Bent County Democrat and Ag Journal Publisher and Editor Candi Hill is leaving the newspaper industry after two decades.

Hill’s last day is Friday, Aug. 25.

“I will truly miss the newspaper business but I’m excited for new opportunities,” Hill said. “I’ve met many wonderful people during my time and have enjoyed working with the community.”

"Candi has been the heart and soul of this newspaper for a very long time," said Steve Curd, Senior Group Publisher - Kansas/Colorado. "We are going to greatly miss having her on our team, but wish her the very best for the next stage in her life. Our goal is to continue to give this community the best local news, both in print and online. This means continuing to do what Candi has done so well during her career in La Junta."

Hill started at the La Junta Tribune-Democrat in 1996 as a general reporter. Continuing to work through college, she graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo with a journalism degree and returned to the La Junta newspaper office in 2000. A few months later, Hill took over as editor of the Fowler Tribune, where she would remain for a few years. At the beginning of 2006, she returned to the La Junta office as editor and remained in that position until being named publisher of the four publications in 2009, a position she has held since.

Hill and her husband, Patrick, and their four children will remain in the La Junta area.
