Last year: The Meloneers were 6-3 and 3-1 in the Class 1A Santa Fe League. The Bulldogs were 1-8 and 1-4 in the Class 1A Northern League.

Next week: Rocky Ford will travel to 10th-ranked Limon next Friday. Game time is at 7 p.m. Byers will host fifth-ranked Peyton next Saturday at 1 p.m.

Cheraw, idle

This week: The Cheraw High School football team will not be in action.

Last year: The Wolverines went 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the six-man Southeast League.

Next week: Cheraw begins the season by hosting Edison next Friday at 7 p.m. at Wolverine Field.

This week: The sixth-ranked Crowley County High School football team will begin the season by hosting Colorado Springs Christian today. Game time is at 7 p.m. at Charger Field.

Last year: The Chargers were 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the Class 1A Santa Fe League. They also played in the state playoffs. The Lions were 5-4 and 3-2 in the Class 1A Tri-Peaks League.

Next week: Crowley County will host John Mall next Friday at 7 p.m. Colorado Springs Christian will play at Wiggins next Friday at 1 p.m.

Fowler, idle

This week: The Fowler high School football team will have an off week.

Last year: The Grizzlies were 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the eight-man Southern League.

Next week: Fowler opens the season by hosting Las Animas at 7 p.m. at Vibber Field.

La Junta, idle

This week: The third-ranked La Junta High School football team is off this week.

Last year: The Tigers went 13-0 overall and 5-0 in the Tri-Peaks League and they won the Class 2A state championship

Next week: La Junta opens the season by hosting Gunnison next Friday at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.

Manzanola High School will not field a team this year because of a lack of numbers.

This week: The Las Animas High School football team will begin the season by hosting Miami-Yoder on Saturday. The game will begin at 1 p.m. at Jack LaSalle Field.

Last year: The Trojans were 2-7 overall and 0-5 in the eight-man Southeast League. The Buffaloes were 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the eight-man Central League.

Next week: Las Animas will play at Fowler next Friday at 7 p.m. Miami-Yoder will host Wiley next Friday at 7 p.m.

Sanford (0-0) at McClave (0-0)

This week: The McClave High School football team will open the season by hosting Sanford on Friday. Kickoff at Cardinal Field is at 6 p.m.

Last year: The Cardinals were 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the eight-man Southeast League and they also competed in the state playoffs. The Indians were 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the eight-man Southwest League.

Next week: McClave will play at 10th-ranked Pikes Peak Christian on Saturday. The game will be in Colorado Springs and it will kick off at 7 p.m. Sanford will host West Grand on Friday at 7 p.m.

Swink, idle

Last year: The Lions were 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the eight-man Southern League.
