Linda was born on Jan. 15, 1950, to Theodore Lewis and Elsie Grace (Firestone) Espinosa in Salinas, California. She went to high school at North Salinas High School and graduated in 1968. She married Stevan R. Hughes on Oct. 3, 1969, and to this union two children were born, son, David, and daughter, Dana.

She went on to explore a career as a cosmetologist. Then Linda explored the workforce at Peter Paul Candy Factory and McCormick Schillings & Company while supporting Steve in his thriving appliance business in Salinas, California. Linda and Stevan then moved to Las Animas in 1990. At that time, she explored many other adventures in the workforce. Linda started working as the deputy clerk of Las Animas, before finding her love for law enforcement when she started her dispatch career at Bent County Sheriff's Office. She then took a break and went on to do secretarial work at Big Valley Ford prior to beginning her last voyage when she joined the members at the Otero Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher and jailor. She retired in January 2015. She was a member of the Las Animas Golf Course, a notary public and a nine-year volunteer as a reservist for the Las Animas Police Department and Bent County Sheriff’s Office. She enjoyed movies, reading, card games and spending time with her family and friends. Her last loves were her fur babies Cali, Whitey, Lucy and Lucky Loo. Her three dogs and cat stuck by her side day after day through good and bad and were the love of her life.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Lewis and Elsie Grace (Firestone) Espinosa; and husband Stevan R. Hughes.

Linda is survived by her son David Hughes of Wetmore, Colorado; daughter, Dana (Sean) Mulvihill of Elbert, Colorado; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
