It continues to be a busy season for the Las Animas Lady Trojans. This past Homecoming week, the Ladies traveled to Hoehne and hosted both Crowley County and Trinidad.

Last Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Ladies faced the Lady Farmers in league play. In what was a heated match, the Lady Farmers pulled a 3-2 win away from the Lady Trojans. Las Animas lost the first 20-25, then bounced back to win the next two: 25-23 and 25-18. In the fourth game, the Lady Trojans came out flat and fell 10-25. This forced a fifth game to 15 in which the Lady Farmers dominated, taking the game 15-9.

Danielle Gonzales led the Lady Trojans in kills with 13, and Angelica Martinez aided with a team high 19 digs.

With a quick turnaround to their homecoming match against the Lady Chargers, the Lady Trojans had some minor changes to make and some weakness to address. One major weakness that the Ladies have been working toward fixing is their lack of blocks. In the game against the Hoehne, there were only a total of eight blocks logged – and that includes assists.

It must have worked, because against both Crowley County and Trinidad, the Lady Trojans came out victorious.

Against the Lady Chargers the Lady Trojans won in five: 19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, and 15-8.

And on Saturday against the Lady Miners, the Lady Trojans made quick work as they had a football game to get to. They won in three: 26-24, 25-22, and 25-18.

This week, the Lady Trojans continue their busy fall schedule as they hosted Granada on Monday, traveled to Rocky Ford for a 4 p.m. start on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and then on Thursday they travel to Walsenburg to face the Lady Panthers at 4 p.m. After the Thursday game, they get to take a breather until Sept. 26 then they travel to Swink for a 4 p.m. start against the Lady Lions.
