Victory Motorsports is happy to announce the Colorado Sports Car Club of America will be holding its Pumpkin Sprints event at the La Junta Raceway on Oct. 14 and 15. They are thanking the City of La Junta for restoring the racetrack and will do a promotional fundraiser for the La Junta Tigers Football Team: at noon on Saturday, a person can buy a ticket for five laps around the track in a sports car for $25, all proceeds to the LJ Tigers.

The events on Saturday, Oct. 14, will feature racing from 9 a.m. to 12 noon; laps from noon to when they finish, then racing the rest of the day until 4 p.m. The chili cook-off at 4 p.m. will provide dinner. In addition, two local vendors will be serving, Thrillbilly’s and Snowball Express. Thrillbilly’s has hamburgers and its traditional chili baked potato, plus other features and drinks; Snowball Express has funnel cakes, hot dogs and snow cones, plus other features. The Southeast Colorado Antique Vehicle Club will have a car show 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Also available for your amusement will be horseshoes and pumpkin carving and decorating. From 5 to 8 p.m., Allan Lasater will play guitar and sing rock classics and oldies for your dinner entertainment.

If you come out on Friday, October 13, in the afternoon you can see the sports cars warming up on the track and running laps to get used to the track. The special events will be on Saturday, with regular racing events also on Sunday. The SCCA is planning the event to thank La Junta for putting the track back in usable condition for racing. The proceeds from the $25 lapping tickets will all go to the La Junta Tigers. Other events are free and open to the public. Call Allan Lasater at 469-1424 for more information, or check out the www.ColoradoSCCA.org website.
