American Legion Post 168 representing Fowler and Manzanola met on Wednesday at the Manzanola Town Hall.
Seeking to extend proper recognition, the Post is asking everyone from the community, both current and former residents, for information about all veterans from Fowler and Manzanola. Information may be sent to the Post Historian, Jody Bracy, at firstname.lastname@example.org. This call is for information regarding active and recent service members as well as elder veterans; “We believe that we need to start recognizing our younger veterans” as well, Bracy noted.
Enacting a resolution of Sep 23 last year, Post 168 will be renamed in honor of local veteran SSG Justin L. Vasquez. The official ceremony for this rededication will be held on Apr 21 at 11 a.m. at the Manzanola High School Gym, with Rocky Ford AL Post 8’s Color Guard to post the colors.
Following the ceremony, at about 1 p.m., the American Legion district meeting will be held at the Manzanola Town Hall.
Following their nomination last year by the Post, radio station KBLJ-KTHN has won in the Small Market Radio category of the 2017 American Legion Media Awards. This recognition reflects the extensive Legion coverage provided by the station over the year, including station manager Adrian Hart and host of “This, That, and the Other (TTO)” Pat McGee. The award will be presented at the Jeff Luginbuel Media Awards Banquet held at 7 p.m. on Jan 27 at the Hilton Garden Inn (5455 Olde Wadsworth Blvd.) in Arvada, CO.
