Former long-time Arkansas Valley teacher and coach Bob Hinkhouse died Sunday at his home. He was 73.

Hinkhouse was born on Dec 23, 1944 in Burlington. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1963, Otero Junior College in 1966, and Southern Colorado State College (now Colorado State University-Pueblo) in 1968.

Hinkhouse began coaching in the Arkansas Valley in 1969 and he worked at Rocky Ford, Crowley County, and La Junta high schools. He was the head track and field coach from the 1990s until 2016. As La Junta's track coach he led the LJHS boys' teams to state championships in 1999 and 2002.

He was on the La Junta football coaching staff first as an assistant from 1992 to 2004. He then became the head coach in 2005 and he had a three-year record of 10 wins and 17 losses.

He also served as an assistant basketball coach.
