The La Junta High School boys' basketball team is one of four Tri-Peaks League teams participating in the Class 3A State Tournament.
The Tigers enter the tournament as the No. 21 seed and they will play 12th-seeded Lutheran Friday at 7 p.m. This regional tournament is being hosted by The Vanguard School; however, it will take place at James Irwin High School's gym because Vanguard's gym has insufficient seating.
Vanguard, the fifth overall seed, will host the Denver School for Science and Technology-Green Valley Ranch in the first game of the tournament at 5 p.m. The winners will play Saturday at 1 p.m.
The other Tri-Peaks schools in the tournament include 29th-seeded St. Mary's at fourth-seeded Platte Valley at 7 p.m. Friday. In the other game at Platte Valley, Roaring Fork, the 13th seed, will face 20th-seeded Colorado Academy at 5:30 p.m. The winners play at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The final T-PL team, 18th-seeded Colorado Springs Christian, will take on 15th-seeded Grand Valley at 7 p.m. Friday at Alamosa. In the other game, second-seeded Alamosa will host 31st-seeded Cedaredge at 5:30 p.m. The winners will face off on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Six Tri-Peaks League teams are in the girls' tournament.
Colorado Springs Christian is the fourth overall seed and it will host 29th-seeded Brush at 5:30 p.m. In the other game, 13th-seeded Eaton will face 20th-seeded St. Mary's Academy at 7 p.m. The winners will play at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Lamar is the 10th seed and it will play 23rd-seeded Alamosa at 4 p.m. in Sterling. Sterling, the seventh seed, will host 26th-seeded Weld Central at 2 p.m. and the winners will play Saturday at 1 p.m.
Manitou Springs, the 12th seed will play 21st-seeded Faith Christian at 7:30 p.m. at La Jara. In the other game, fifth-seeded Centauri will host 28th-seeded Stargate School at 6 p.m. The winners will play Saturday at 1 p.m.
Vanguard, the 22nd seed, will play 11th-seeded Jefferson Academy on Friday at Cedaredge. Cedaredge, the sixth seed, will host 27th-seeded Liberty Common and the winners will play on Saturday.
St. Mary's is the third overall seed and it will host 30th-seeded Roaring Fork at 7 p.m. on Friday. Salida, the 19th seed, is also at St. Mary's and it will play 14th-seeded Colorado Academy at 5 p.m. The winners will play Saturday at 1 p.m.
Swink is the No. 5 seed in the Class 2A girls' field and it will host 28th-seeded Byers on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Region 5 Tournament. The other game will have 12th-seeded Wray and 21-seeded Colorado Springs School playing at 7 p.m. The winners will play at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Fowler is the 18th seed and it will face 15th-seeded Highland at 5:30 p.m. in the Region 2 Tournament on Friday at Simla. In the other game, second-seeded Simla will play 31st-seeded Sargent at 4 p.m. The winners will play Saturday at 1 p.m.
Las Animas is the 32nd seed and it will play at top-seeded Yuma in the Region 1 Tournament at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. In the other game, 16th-seeded Haxtun and 17-seeded Ellicott will play at 2:30 p.m. The winners will play at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Hoehne is the 30th seed and it will play at third-seeded Limon on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Region 3 Tournament. The other game will have 14th-seeded Soroco and 19th-seeded Burlington at 5:30 p.m. The winners will face off Saturday at 2 p.m.
Crowley County is the top-seeded team in the boys' field and it will host 32nd-seeded Center at 6 p.m. in the Region 1 Tournament. Fowler is also in this bracket and it enters at No. 17. It will play 16th-seeded Haxtun at 7:30 p.m. The winners will play at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Rocky Ford is the 24th seed and it will play ninth-seeded Sedgwick County at 7 p.m. Friday in the Region 8 Tournament in Sanford. Sanford is the eighth seed and it will host 25th-seeded Mancos at 5 p.m. The winners will play at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Swallows Charter Academy, the 31st seed, will play second-seeded Yuma at 7 pm. in the Region 2 Tournament. The other game in the bracket will have 15th-seeded Evangelical Christian and 18th-seeded Dawson School at 5:30 p.m. The winners will play Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of each Region will advance to the Class 2A State Tournament, which will take place next week in Loveland.
The top three teams in the Class 1A District 2, 3 and 6 Tournaments will play in the Region 3 Tournament at Tiger Gym this weekend.
In Friday's boys' action, ninth-seeded Cheraw will play fourth-seeded Sangre de Cristo at 12:20 p.m., fifth-seeded Kit Carson will play eighth-seeded Walsh at 3 p.m., and seventh-seeded McClave will play sixth-seeded South Baca at 5:40 p.m.
On Saturday, the Cheraw/Sangre de Cristo winner will play third-seeded Sierra Grande at 12:20 p.m., the Kit Carson/Walsh winner will play second-seeded Creede at 3 p.m., and the McClave/South Baca winner will play top-seeded Holly at 5:40 p.m.
On the girls' side, fourth-seeded Holly will play ninth-seeded Sierra Grande at 11 a.m., fifth-seeded Sangre de Cristo will play eighth-seeded Eads at 1:40 p.m., and sixth-seeded McClave will play seventh-seeded South Baca at 4:20 p.m.
On Saturday, the Holly/Sierra Grande winner will play third-seeded Anotnito at 11 a.m., the Sangre de Cristo/Eads winner will play second-seeded Kim/Branson at 1:40 p.m., and the McClave/South Baca winner will play top-seeded Kit Carson at 4:20 p.m.
The winner of each bracket will advance to the Class 1A State Tournament, which will be next week in Greeley.
