Dates: March 18, 2018 – March 24, 2018

INFORMATION: Numerous parties in the Valley have been contacted by a person claiming to be working for Black Hills Energy. The person states that a gas bill is due and the gas will be shut off to the residence/business if a certain amount of money is not immediately paid. Please be aware that Black Hills Energy will not contact anyone requesting payment with the threat that gas will be shut off immediately. Black Hills Energy notifies customers by electronic message with a pin number enabling you to access your account to arrange payment.

For those who don’t already know, the Bent County Sheriff’s Office has an anonymous tip line for the smart phone. On your phone, open up your APPS store and download the BCSOTips application. When you use the tip line, your phone number will be replaced with a user number that allows deputies to interact with you without them knowing your identity.

During the week of March 18, 2018 through March 24, 2018, the Bent County Sheriff’s Office received these calls for service:

03/18/2018

Deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of 5th Street in Las Animas for a report of damaged property. Deputies arrived on scene, spoke to the reporting party, and took a report of the broken car window. This case is under investigation.

Deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of McAfee Avenue in Las Animas for a report of burglary. Deputies arrived on scene, spoke to the reporting party, and took a report on the stolen property, as well as entered it into the CCIC/NCIC database. This case is under investigation.

03/19/2018

Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Bent Avenue in Las Animas for a report of an assault. Deputies arrived on scene, spoke to the parties involved, and arrested Wade Condit, age 24, of Las Animas, for harassment and an outstanding Otero County warrant.

Deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Poplar Avenue in Las Animas for a report of a family disturbance. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke to the parties involved, and a 15-year-old male was removed from the residence by the Department of Social Services.

03/20/2018

Deputies were contacted by a party who arrived at the Bent County Sheriff’s Office regarding a possible theft. Deputies discussed the situation with the reporting party and determined it to be a civil issue.

03/22/2018

Deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of South Main Street in Hasty for a report of burglary. Deputies arrived on scene, spoke to the reporting party, and took a report. This case is under investigation.

Deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of 10th Street in Las Animas for a report of theft. Deputies arrived on scene, spoke to the reporting party, and took a report on the stolen cellular phone. This case is under investigation.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop at 8th Street and Cottonwood Avenue in Las Animas. Deputies contacted and cited Carman Cebulski, age 43, of Las Animas, for fictitious plates.

03/23/2018

Deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of Vine Avenue in Las Animas for a report of a burglary. Deputies arrived on scene, spoke to the reporting party, and took a report on the stolen medication. This case is under investigation.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop at 4th Street and Carson Avenue in Las Animas. Deputies contacted and arrested Loren Shupe, age 24, of Las Animas, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

03/24/2018

Deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Ambassador Thompson Boulevard in Las Animas for a party driving under the influence. Deputies contacted and arrested Dee Beuley, age 53, of Las Animas, for driving under the influence.

All parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, as charges may be altered and plea bargains may be taken into consideration.
