LAMAR — Two local high school track and field programs competed at the Lamar Invitational, which took place Saturday, March 31 at Savage Stadium.

Las Animas

Las Animas tied for 19th with three points. the Trojans had only one individual placer as Gabe DeVargas was eighth in the 800 in 2:19.86.

Las Animas took seventh place in the 4x800 in 10:34.68.

The Lady Trojans were 21st in the girls’ meet with three points. Like the boys, the girls also had a single placer in Makayla Huffman, who was eighth in the 1,600 in 6:58.95.

The Las Animas girls took seventh in the 4x400 in 5:43.23.

McClave

McClave tied for 10th with 25 points. Placing for the Cardinals were Ian Beckett, who was fifth in the long jump at 19-3 1/4 and eighth in the 100 in 12.21, Marcus Perales, who was fifth in the 400 in 56.73, and Dawson Roesch, who was fifth in the 100 in 12.04 and sixth in the 200 in 24.92.

McClave also placed in two relays. It was fifth in the 4x100 in 48.19 and fifth in the 4x800 in 9:43.62.

The Lady Cardinals were ninth in the girls’ meet with 32 points. Their placers include Shalea Watts, who was third in the 800 in 2:43.18, Becca Steerman, who was fourth in the 1,600 in 6:34.95, McKenzie Watts, who was fifth in the shot put at 31-11 and seventh in the discus at 92-10, and Katie Roesch, who was seventh in the 400 in 1:08.59.

The Lady Cardinals placed in two relays. They won the 4x800 in 11:46.04 and they also took sixth in the 800 sprint medley in 2:05.55.
