A total of 16 recently graduated high school athletes and one coach will represent the Arkansas Valley at the Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State games, which will take place next week in Alamosa.

The first action of this year's games is the softball contest. Only one local player will be participating in Jolene Carrica, a Swink student who played for Rocky Ford. The game will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Adams State University softball field.

Four local wrestlers will be in that contest. Three are from Rocky Ford in Carlos Romo (145), Diego Reyes (160) and Greg Garcia (285). Dahlton McGhee (195) of Fowler will also participate. All four were individual state champions in Class 2A this past season.

Rocky Ford's Mike Jurney will coach one of the teams.

The wrestling match will take place June 8 at Adams State University's Plachy Hall gym Friday at 2 p.m.

There are three local representatives in both the boys' basketball and girls' basketball games.

In the boys' competition, there will be two Crowley county athletes in Bradley Carnes-Clabey and Hayden Carter. They will be joined by McClave's Ian Beckett.

Carnes-Clabey was the Colorado High School Activities Association's Class 2A Player of the Year and he and Carter led the Chargers to a Class 2A state runner-up finish.

The boys' semifinals will take place at Alamosa High School's gym at 4 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The third place game is at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the championship is at 2 p.m. also on Saturday. Saturday's games will be at Plachy.

In the girls' games, Fowler's Lexi Van Sickle, and Joni Brown and Ashley Yergert, both of Kim, will be playing.

The girls' semifinals are at 4 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The third place game is at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and the championship is at 12:30 p.m., also on Saturday. All of the girls' games are at Plachy.

The football game is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Adams State's Rex Field. There are three locals playing for the south team in La Junta's Wyatt Buhr, McClave's Ken Cox and Crowley County's Chris Meyer.

One local is in the cross country races in Rocky Ford's Cody Danley. The girls' race is at 9 a.m. and the boys will run at 9:30 a.m.

Wrapping up the All-State Games is the volleyball competition, which will take place Saturday at the Adams State field house. There is only one local participating in McClave's Allie Nidey.

The semifinals are at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. The third place match is at noon and the championship is at 1 p.m.

With the exception of football, the athletes' assigned teams have not yet been determined.
