COLORADO CITY — The La Junta High School boys' cross country team finished in second place at the Rye Invitational, which took place Tuesday at Hollydot Golf Course.

The Tigers scored 34 points, five points behind Rye with 29.

Gabe DeVargas was La Junta's top runner as he finished second in 17:59.91. Santanel Orosco was ninth in 19:01.84, David Palmer was 11th in 19:29.38, Ian Dutt was 12th in 19:30.66, Walker Balicki was 26th in 21:28.22, Karl Ludwig was 47th in 24:18.84 and Drew Huffman was 49th in 24:40.00.

Custer County's Micah Zeller was the individual champion in 16:52.66.

La Junta did not enter anybody in the girls' race.

Pueblo County was the girls' champion with 31 points. Pueblo East was second with 43 and Rye was third with 47.

Eowyn Dalbec of James Irwin was the girls' individual champion in 20:25.27.

La Junta's next competition will be the Tri-Peaks League meet, which will take place Oct. 5 in Florence.

Girls' team scores

Pueblo County 31, Pueblo East 43, Rye 47, James Irwin 49, Colorado Springs School 74, Fountain Valley 137, Antonito 146.

LJJHS boys also compete at Rye

The La Junta Junior High School boys' cross country team competed in the middle school/junior high competition at the Rye Invitational.

The course was an even two miles.

In the eighth grade division, Henry Olaleye finished seventh in 13:44.

In the seventh grade division, Miles Marshall was ninth in 13:46, D'Reese Leon was 10th in 13:49 and Dillon Ruiz was 12th in 14:11.
