The Las Animas Trojans and Lady Trojans took to the road this week to compete in the Mountain Top Tournament in Centauri. The tournament featured several 3A and a handful of 2A teams in a bracket that guaranteed three games for each team over three days.
On Thursday, both teams faced Olathe. Both Trojan teams struggled from the floor, as the boys lost 70-30 and the girls fell 46-22.
With no time to recoup or regroup, the teams took the floor again on Friday against Montezuma-Cortez. The Panthers were hot from the floor against both teams. The boys lost by the significant margin of 93-32, and the girls fell 64-12.
Finally, on Saturday, both Trojan teams took the floor against Sargent. While the score of the boys’ game wasn’t posted yet, they did fall in their third game in a row, and the girls fell in their third in a row, 65-22.
Despite the three down this weekend, the Trojans still have plenty of basketball to play. Their next opportunities come this weekend at home in the first annual Breaking Blue tournament in the newly renovated Trojan Gymnasium.
Teams will include Las Animas, South Baca, Manzanola and La Veta. Games begin Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday evening, with both teams guaranteed two games.
