The life of Frank Gallegos, Sr., 68, was celebrated with a rosary and funeral services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in La Junta on Wednesday.

After the services, he was honored with a funeral procession to Rocky Ford, led by his fellow officers of the Bent County Sheriff's Office, the Rocky Ford Police Department and the La Junta Police Department, as well as some from Pueblo.

Gallegos retired as Chief of Police in Rocky Ford a couple of years ago and went to work as an undersheriff in Bent County. He was known for his kindness and his sense of humor.

Gallegos was a veteran of three tours of duty in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict.

He is survived by his wife, children, brothers and sister, as well as by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He passed away Dec. 24 in Pueblo in the company of his family at Parkview Medical Center.
