The Colorado State Library announced a $3,923 grant was given to McClave Schools to improve technology integration and student writing skills through digital scrapbooking, Superintendent Terry Weber told the McClave School Board on September 14.
The grant will provide training, instruction, equipment and inspiration necessary for students to create curriculum based digital scrapbooks or similar projects. The projects include local history writing for sixth grade students, handbooks on Internet safety for eighth grade students and literary criticism handbooks and school history projects for tenth and eleventh grade students.
Board members approved policy JJJ-R, or the eligibility policy for after school activities.
Students who receive three “D’s” are ineligible to participate the week following the grades received, unless the student attends Friday school, from 9 a.m. to noon, during the week of the grade received.
“Teachers are supposed to tell them they’re headed down on Thursday, “ Weber told the board.
If a student receives two “F’s”, they remain ineligible, despite the fact that they may attend Friday school.
However, if a student receives one “F”, two “D’s” or three “D’s”, they may attend Friday school and be put on academic probation from the Superintendent or Principal, at the discretion of one of those people.
“If it ever slips to two F’s, it doesn’t matter. If they don’t attend Friday school, it doesn’t matter,” Weber said.
The number of students taking advantage of Friday school is a concern, as many students aren’t attending.
“The motivation is to get kids in school on Friday. Not to field a football team,” Weber said.
