Why are you running for school board?
“I believe education for our children is one of the most important things we can do. Depending on what they learn will prove what kind of adults they will become. The School Board plays a very important part in the decision of what programs and subjects are best for their education of the students. I am looking forward tot helping be part of this process.”

What experience do you bring to the position?
“I served on the LA School Board for three months to fill a position that was vacated before the term was up. The position was filled by the election of a term member. I joined the LA Accountability Committee. This program designed to review items of interest of the school. Through reviewing and decision of subjects of interest, we then present our findings to the School Board.”

What do you feel are the major issues facing the board?
“One of the first things will be the decision of staying on a four day school week or going back to the five day. Then getting the budget figured out for the next school year. Reviewing if there are any changes to be done in school curriculum, projects and contracts for teachers.”

How will you address the issues?
“Each items will be discussed and decided by due process of the School Board, with information received from areas of interest.”

Do you support a four day or five day school week?
“This is a decision that can only be decided by the information we receive from the parents, staff, students and the accountability committee. The final decision will be that of the school board.”

What are your feelings about the new community center?
“I feel there is more information needed before I can give any decision on this matter.”

What would you do to improve CSAP scores in the district?
“This is an area that can only be decided by the cooperation of the teachers, superintendent, LACC and the school board, from reports of testing done and reported.”

What would you do to balance the budget?
“It is my understanding that the budget is pre-approved in most areas by the school board in the prior year. Which is audited yearly and approved or corrected?
From the time I was on the school board, they are very professional on their process of approving the budget.
I as accountant for a Head Start for 13 years and from my experience, most budgets are pretty standard from year to year depending on funds available. If any new grants are approved, they will be approved only for certain expenditures.

How would you encourage teachers to stay in the district?
“I feel teaching is a very important career for anyone and hopefully teaching would be the priority to any one of them. That teaching would be a professional person with respect for the students, including their language and behavior. It is up to the school board to see that the teachers have the best materials to work with. There should be some kind of appreciation offered to teachers for the effort they put in for taking on such a stressful position. I also feel teachers should be reviewed each year for their classroom results and paid accordingly. I feel this gives the teachers a reason to strive in the class and therefore the students will get their best training possible.”
