The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a head-on crash that occurred on Highway 287 in Baca County, 3 miles north of the Colorado-Oklahoma border. At approximately 10:22 a.m., a southbound Ford minivan drifted into the northbound lane, colliding with a Swift Transportation semi tractor and trailer. After impact, the Ford rotated off the western side of the roadway. The tractor and trailer skidded to rest, blocking the northbound lane.

The driver of the Ford, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Baca County Deputy Coroner Neal Harmon. The driver of the tractor and trailer, 36-year-old Eric Hoffman of Dallas, Texas, was not injured during the crash.

Alcohol and drug use are not suspected as contributing factors in the crash. It appears that both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
