Jan. 18

Criminal Mischief

Victim – Roberta Diemert reported a broken window valued at approximately $40 in the first block of Fifth Street. Incident occurred between 3:30-4:45 p.m.

Incident is open and under investigation.

 

Jan. 19

Traffic accident – hit and run

Victim - Thaxton’s Market in the 100 block of First Street. Police received a report that someone had run into the north side of the store causing damage to the metal sheeting and interior wall. The possible vehicle involved is described as a black car. The driver left the scene. Anyone with information concerning this accident is urged to call the Las Animas Police Department.

 

Jan. 20

Identity Theft

Victim – Barbara Norman of the 500 block of Tenth Street.

Norman reported that since 2006, someone has been using her Social Security number and personal information to make purchases. The victim was notified that she had an outstanding account for a computer purchase.

Known loss at this time is approximately $1,884.73.

Incident is open and under investigation.

 

Jan. 22

Traffic Accident – Hit and Run

Location – 700 block of Maple Avenue

Police received a report of damage to a fence in the north-south alley west of the 700 block of Grand Avenue. The investigation led to the driver of the vehicle, a John Phillip Gonzales, age 52 of 725 Grand Ave., Las Animas.

Damage amount: approximately $93.

Gonzales was taken into custody on the charge of Driving While License Revoked as a Habitual Traffic Offender.

Closed, cleared by arrest. Turned over to the Bent County Jail for further disposition.

 

Jan. 22

Warrant Execution

Subject: John Phillip Gonzales, age 52 of the 700 block of Grand Avenue was taken into custody on a Prowers County warrant for contempt of court – original charge of driving under revocation as a habitual driver.

Closed – cleared by arrest – turned over to the Bent County Jail for further disposition.

 

Jan. 23

Burglary

Six Tinkers, 400 block of Carson Avenue

Police received a report that someone had forced open the back door of the store. A cash register with money was reported stolen.

Incident is open and under investigation.

 

Jan. 28

Burglary/Theft

Victim – Curtis Martenson of Colorado Springs

Martinson reported that person or persons unknown entered his storage building in the 900 block of Fifth Street at the rear of his property. Martenson reported that several tools, a TV and surround sound system, shirts and jeans with an approximate value of $5,850 had been taken.

Open, under investigation.

 

Jan. 28

Traffic accident

Jerry Tillman was eastbound on Fifth Street at approximately 4:54 p.m. at the intersection with Bent Avenue, when he slid on snow and ice through the intersection, striking Orlando Garcia’s vehicle, which was southbound on Bent Avenue. Both vehicles sustained slight to moderate damage.

Tillman was cited into Municipal Court for unsafe speed for road conditions.

 

Feb. 4

Harassment/Domestic Violence

At approximately 12:20 a.m., police received a report that a suspect made threats of physical harm and yelling at the victim. Subject taken into custody for harassment/domestic violence and was transported to the Bent County Jail for further disposition.

 

Theft

Victim – John Trujillo

Trujillo reported the theft of money and prescription drugs from his residence between 8-11 a.m.
