They might be a small business club, but their showing at district competition was mighty. Twenty-one Las Animas business students went to regional competition at OJC last Tuesday and 17 qualified for state competition which will be held in April in Vail. Teacher Addie Wallace said the group competed against 25 business chapters located east of I-25 and did an excellent job with their placing for state.
First place winners were Kelsey Thaxton in Accounting I, and Paige Ridley in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures.
Dalton Gallegos brought home a 2nd in Future Business Leader and was joined by Justice Pryor in Hospitality Management, Faith Craig in Introduction to Business Communication, and Josh Japhet in Business Math.
Also earning 2nd place was the team of Justin Dean, Asa Brown, Beth Myers, Aimee Amaya, and Taryn Likes for Parliamentary Procedures. The team of Gracie Davis and Isaac Fernandez took second in Digital Video Production.
Brittany Fritz had a third place finish in Health Care Administration and Michael Snead had a third in Introduction to Business.
Shane Smith and Dalton Gallegos shone in the Leader level of Business Achievement Award which will bring them recognition at the state level. Danielle Marfil will be awarded a Peak 5 award which is the outstanding state award participation.
All in all Wallace felt her team demonstrated their capabilities and expertise in a variety of business categories and was proud of all they did.
