Kid Gangs Have Vandalized Las Animas

    At least three gangs of youths have been responsible for breaking numerous glass windows and othr criminal mischief in the city in the past month.
    Police Chief Don Trujillo said one house sustained damage of between $7,000 and $8,000. He said every window had been broken.
    The parents of the roaming kid gangs have been contacted.
    "We have dealt with them through Social Services as well," Trujillo told the Las Animas City Council Tuesday night.

    Two of the children were too young to be charged but Trujillo said the parents can be held responsible for their children's actions.
    In his report, Public Works Director Ken Wagner said the swimming pool has been vandalized four or five times in the past month. Restroom mirrors have been broken, benches and rocks thrown into the pool and a yard hydrant was pushed over. That resulted in the city have to saw through new concrete to make repairs.
    The chief said the city "has had a heck of a problem with criminal mischief this year.
    Trujillo said he is looking into setting up cameras at various locations around town.
