Eagle Ridge Media has finished filming in the region and is busy creating rough draft works of the public service announcements (PSAs) to be shown at the September meeting of Canyons and Plains (formerly SECORHT - Southeast Colorado Regional Heritage Taskforce). The meeting will be in Ordway.
Judy Walden of the Walden Mills Group and Eagle Ridge Media will join the membership to preview the historic theater PSAs during the meeting. Later, there will be a chance to discover some of Crowley County’s best kept secrets in the form of a cemetery bingo tour. The meeting will be in Ordway at the school library from 9 a.m. to 12 with lunch at Martin’s on Main and a tour to follow.
The Eagle Ridge crew filmed in the region at two different periods during the end of June and the middle of July. They used a film crew of four to six people and spent long hours capturing historic sites on film. Youth from the region had the opportunity to help the film crew throughout the period they were filming by carrying equipment, lining up extras, getting permission forms signed and, of course, being filmed themselves. Nearly all the sites required from 25-30 extras on the set during the filming, and the youth and volunteers in those communities made that process happen much more quickly. Canyons and Plains is grateful to those volunteers.
Jeanne Fenter of Canyons and Plains said, “Local people from throughout the area and the owners of historic theaters helped select the film production crew that we used. They also provided input to the content of the PSA’s. The purpose is to help local people to understand the richness of our heritage stories. Funding for this project is coming from Preserve America and History Colorado (the Colorado Historical Society State Historic Fund).”
Progress on the design for the kiosk at Eads has begun with graphics being created by Cry Baby Designs out of Longmont. They are the company responsible for the graphics used in the Colorado Birding Trail website and booklets.
The site of the kiosks at the intersection of state highways 109 and 160 directly north of Kim has also been under construction with the help of the US Forest Service installing the poles that the kiosks there will be mounted on. The panels themselves will be in within a few months and will utilize the map created for SECORHT along with some regional information. The US Forest Service will also use these kiosks for the Comanche National Grasslands and the Auto Tour route that they have created for the region.
