The Otero Junior College Law Enforcement Training Academy graduated 10 students on Dec. 3. The class was the 28th class to graduate from the Law Academy since the academy was established in 1999.

Miner Blackford, academy director, welcomed the graduates and their guests, followed by opening remarks by Jim Rizzuto, president of Otero Junior College. The keynote address was given by John Cox, from Las Animas, and a student in the academy.

A reception followed the ceremony for graduates, family and friends.
The OJC Law Enforcement Training Academy is an intensive 15-week, 40-semester-hour training course. The academy is staffed by 40 veteran certified peace officers and career professionals who teach the latest in law enforcement techniques using state-of-the-art equipment. The course-work offered by the academy is continually upgraded each semester and is designed to prepare students to take the Colorado POST examination to become Colorado Certified Peace Officers.

Enrollment for the Spring Law Enforcement Training Academy is now open. Spring Semester begins Jan. 8, 2012. For more information about the registration process, contact Miner Blackford, academy director, at 384-6867.
