The Las Animas Bent County Library District received a BOOKS FOR CHILDREN grant from the Libri Foundation.
The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization which donates new, quality, hardcover children’s books to small, rural public libraries throughout the United States. Based out of Eugene Ore., the Libri Foundation donates books to rural libraries under 16,000 in population with a limited operating budget and an active children’s department.
The Foundation works with local groups because they believe in community involvement and want to reward local support of libraries. The grant requires a 2-to-1 ratio with local sponsors raising $350 for $1,050 worth of books.
For this grant cycle the local match came from the Bent County Family and Community Education Club and the Foundation of Christian Church Central Rocky Mountain Region.
Each book received through the BOOKS FOR CHILDREN program comes with a bookplate listing the Libri Foundation and local sponsors.
The list the library chose from reflects the very best of children’s literature published in the last three years. These titles have been judged as outstanding or highly recommended by recognized authorities in the library and education fields.
The books arrived just in time for the summer reading program.
