At approximately 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 the Las Animas Police Department responded to a report of an out of control man in the 900 block of Vine in the city of Las Animas.
The responding went to a residence in the 900 block of Vine and found that Joe Lucero age: 78 had been assaulted by his son Joey Lucero age: 36. Joe Lucero sustained serious injuries to his head and hip. Joe Lucero was transported by ambulance to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center and later transported by Flight for Life to Swedish Hospital in Denver.
Joey Lucero was taken into custody on scene and booked into jail on the initial charges of Second Degree Assault and Menacing.
At approximately 09:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, the Las Animas Police Department was notified by the Arapahoe County Coroner that Joe Lucero had passed away as a result of his injuries.
This case is currently under investigation.
