The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle crash resulting in one fatality that occurred on Highway 160, 4 miles west of Springfield, in Baca County. A 2003 Freightliner tractor towing a loaded semi-trailer was traveling westbound when it traveled off the northern side of the roadway and collided with a delineator post. The driver overcorrected to the left, causing the tractor-trailer combination to roll onto its top.
The driver, 24-year-old Aron Carillo of Liberal, Kans., was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash but sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol and drug use are not suspected as contributing factors at this time. For further information, contact Trooper Gumke.
