Andrew M. (Andy) Varner of Las Animas and previously of Stratford, Texas, died unexpectedly in La Junta on Jan. 11, 2010. He was born Aug. 22, 1939, in Pueblo to Carl L. and Elsie M. (Baker) Varner.
Andy was employed at Fowler Coop for many years, at Edison School and later at Stratford Feed Yard and the City of Stratford before retiring.
He enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his former wife, Phyliss M.Taylor of Walsenburg; sons, Keith E. Varner of Walsenburg and Andrew “Wayne” (Kim) Varner of Las Animas; current wife, Dorothy Varner of Stratford, Texas; daughter, Kathy (John) Horton of Texas and son Jason Varner of California.
He is also survived by siblings, Bill (Audrey) Varner of La Junta; Charlene (Bob) Manweiler of La Junta, Edna (Dewey) Stockton of Shell Knob, Mo., Carl Varner of Garden City, Kan., Gene (Esther) Varner of Manzanola, Jim (Judy) Varner, Phil (Linda) Varner of Guthrie, Okla., Nancy (Mike) Sechrist of Monte Vista, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son Jerry Glenn Varner and his parents, Carl and Elsie Varner.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15 at the Fowler Cemetery with Clayton King, minister of the La Junta Church of Christ officiating.
Griffy Family Funeral Home of Fowler was in charge of arrangements.
