With the playoffs breathing down the neck of the Lady Trojans, it’s more important now than it has been all season for each player to be on top of her game. Traveling to Hoehne and hosting Crowley County, the Lady Trojans had opportunities to bring their “A” game.
On Jan. 29 in Hoehne, the Lady Trojans were close with the Lady Farmers in the first quarter out-scoring them 12-10 and followed with a defensive stand allowing only six points to be scored by the Lady Farmers. At the half, the Lady Trojans led by a mere point 17-16.
The third quarter was a different story for the Lady Trojans as they came out gunning. Las Animas put up 15 points in the third quarter, and dominated the game from that point on. At the end, the Lady Trojans were victorious by a score of 41-31.
Standouts for the Lady Trojans included Kelly Aparicio, who put up a team-leading 14 points, and Savannah Bewley, who grabbed 14 rebounds for the Lady Trojans.
With little time to recover from a long bus ride due to weather, Jan 30 the Lady Chargers came to Las Animas for another Trojan campaign.
The first quarter was drab for both sides as Las Animas only put up 9 to Crowley County’s 5. The second quarter belonged to the Lady Trojans who scored 13 – eight more than their opponent.
The third quarter included surprises for the Trojans. Still building a lead, Grace Miller found herself in a situation to shoot a three-point field goal. This shot, for Miller is a rarity as she spends most of her time in the post. Miller put the shot up, made it, and hustled back down the court with the most surprised look on her face. Fans from both sides enjoyed Miller’s reaction to her shot.
In the end, the Lady Trojans were victorious 45-29.
