When kicking off a long weekend, it’s usually nice to start with something successful and productive so the relaxing time that you do have as the weekend progresses doesn’t seem like a waste. The Las Animas Trojans have no reason to believe that their time this past weekend was a waste as they took to the gridiron and annihilated the Center Vikings.
The Trojans began on defense, and stayed there for a while, as Jay Snow intercepted a pass on Center’s first drive and returned it for a touchdown. This, combined with the two point conversion put the Trojans up 8-0 early. The defense wasn’t the only side scoring for the Trojans however. Quarterback Jeffrey Gonzales threw for 184 yards and a touchdown to Sheridan Howe. Howe caught for 117 yards and the one touchdown from Gonzales. Jordan Melendez and Harley Tenorio combined for 120 yards on the ground as well.
Defensively, the Trojans had three interceptions by Snow, Shane Smith, and Howe, and one fumble recovery by Jason Ybarra. Leading in tackles, Tenorio logged 9.5 tackles, while Howe logged 6.5, and freshman Trevor Johnson had 6.
Overall, a successful outing for the Trojans as they trounced Center 36-18. The Trojans will work all week to avenge another loss from last season when they travel to Sargent on September 11. Game time is 7p.m. Go and support your Trojans as they continue and build on the success they had last season, and continue to have this season. GO TROJANS!
