Several McClave fall athletes were honored for their efforts during the past football and volleyball seasons. All State teams have not been announced, but All Conference teams have been.
For the McClave boys, senior Andrew Grover and junior Saxon Turner were named to the first team Ark Valley All Conference football team. Grover, a two year starter for the Cards, manned spots on both the offensive and defensive lines this year's Cardinal squad. He started on the offensive line on last year's team that advanced to the state quarterfinals. Turner, in his first year of football at McClave, made a dramatic entrance. He rushed for over 1,700 yards on the season, including twice going over 300 yards in a game. Sophomore Tate Mauser, a two-year starter on the offensive line, was named to the honorable mention squad.
The McClave girls, who advanced to the State Volleyball Tournament for the ninth straight year had three selections on this year's Hi Plains All Conference team. Named for the second consecutive year were senior Adrianne Cline and junior Karlee Stuart. Cline and Stuart, number one on the team, were the top hitters for McClave on the season, while Cline led the Lady Cards in blocks. Also named to the first team was sophomore setter Melissa Navarette, her first selection to the team. Senior Anna Kuhns was picked on the second team, while fellow seniors Brittney Dickerson and Jordan Melgoza were honorable mention picks. "It is really special that all six of my starters were selected in one way or another to the All Conference team. That has only happened one other time in my five years here as head coach. What a good bunch of girls to coach; I was so lucky this year," said Brianne Howe, McClave head volleyball coach.
