A Las Animas woman was injured in an accident Dec. 23 on Highway 109, about three miles north of La Junta.and was flown flight-for-life to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Jade Japhet, 19, was traveling north in a 2007 Chevy Cavalier when the vehicle slid on the icy roadway and traveled into the oncoming lane.
The vehicle was then struck head on by a 2008 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 60-year-old Kenneth Betancur of Cheraw.
Japhet was extricated from her vehicle by emergency services and transported by ambulance to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center, then taken to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs with serious injuries.
Japhet suffered a broken nose, broken left jaw, crushed left cheek and lacerations.
Betancur was transported to AVRMC and treated for minor injuries.
Japhet was released from the hospital on Christmas Day and is recovering at home.
She is doing well, according to family members.
