This weekend, the skies over Rocky Ford came alive with a vibrant display of hot air balloons, as the 35th annual Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival celebrated yet another successful year. Set against the scenic backdrop of Innovative Water Technologies, which has graciously hosted the event for three years, the event drew hundreds of visitors for the three day event, all eager to experience the wonder of ballooning in the crisp Colorado air.

The festival, a much-anticipated fall tradition in the Arkansas Valley, provided a packed weekend of activities for attendees of all ages. Balloon launches were scheduled Saturday and Sunday morning at sunrise, and although launch is not always guaranteed, balloons took flight Saturday morning, with the sight of colorful balloons lifting off and floating over Rocky Ford. Pilots from across the state and beyond participated, bringing uniquely designed balloons that ranged from traditional shapes to whimsical and creative designs.

Festival-goers not only enjoyed balloon launches but also a variety of family-friendly events held throughout the day. Highlights included a balloon parade and hot cocoa social, as well as vendors and hands-on and up-close tutorials from trained professionals.

The festival organizers, as well as the Arkansas Valley community, took time to honor the history of ballooning in Arkansas Valley, celebrating the growth of the event from its beginnings to its current status as a must-attend event for both ballooning enthusiasts and Colorado families alike.

“It’s always a really neat experience to see all of the balloons and to enjoy something like this so close to home,” said one event goer. “We’re grateful to get to enjoy this with our family each year.”

The Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival continues to be a beloved tradition, a celebration of small-town warmth and high-flying adventure that brings people together year after year.
