News to Know
Across Syria, Internet and cellphone service went down on Thursday and international flights were canceled at the Damascus airport when a road was closed by heavy fighting. The Internet outage — confirmed by two U.S.-based companies that monitor online connectivity — is new in Syria's 20-month-old uprising against their president, Bashar Assad. Activists say that more than 40,000 people have already been killed in the country's civil war.

Quote of note
"The primary point is, we think they should stop the practice of pay to rank, or at least make it very clear what's going on," said Stefan Weitz, Senior director of Bing, about the accusations facing Google Shopping. To make its point, Microsoft Bing has launched a detailed site accusing Google Search of unsavory business practices; accusing its rival's Google Shopping tool of being dishonest by only including paying vendors, ranking listings by how much they pay and not clearly marking the results as sponsored.
