Canyons and Plains (Southeast Colorado Regional Heritage Tourism) received a grant for kiosk signs in our area with Las Animas and Boggsville reaping benefits. They will be similar to what has already been placed in Holly and Fowler. The next planning meeting will be held on April 11 at the Museum at 9 a.m. and the community is encouraged to attend.

Next week we will head to the John Martin Dam Corps of Engineers Museum for a museum and dam tour, have a picnic lunch at the State Park Visitor Center, and tour the State Park petroglyphs, and perhaps do the Red Shin Walking Trail.

We are looking forward to the 80th anniversary of Santa Fe Trail Day April 25 and are pleased to announce that we are hosting the Queen's Reception on Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. We are planning a Cinco de Mayo exhibit and program May 4. The annual Santa Fe Trail Day Art Show will start receiving artwork on April 21. Don't forget to bring your SFTD T-shirts, queen dresses, and memorabilia for a special exhibit for SFTD.

Our museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children above six years. Free access to the Old Trail Gallery if you just want to shop.

We have started work on Bent County Chronicle #29 coming out soon. Listen to KRKV 107.3 Las Animas on LA Live Wednesdays at 6:30 a.m. at their studio in the Chamber of Commerce Office at 736 Grove Avenue to hear the latest local news of the museum and community events.

Spoken history recordings continue. If you have a story to tell us, call for an interview. Like us on Facebook (Pioneer Historical Society of Bent County) and check out our Web page - bentcountyheritage.org. Many thanks to all our community supporters, and hopefully spring is in the air - no dirt allowed!!
