The Las Animas track and field squads took to the cold and blustery weather on March 22 for their first track meet in Lamar. It was a good meet, despite the weather, for coaches and runners to learn about themselves and learn what can be done to improve in the coming months.

Coach Wallace said about the meet, "We learned what we have to work with, and we have a good, solid foundation. A great spot to build from."

The girls' results are as follows:

Taylor Spady:

First in Triple Jump at 33'1"

Second in Long Jump at 14'3.5"

Sahara Snead:

Eighth in 300M Hurdles at 58.12

Relays:

Eighth in 400M Relay with Sahara Snead, Cathy Hoefker, Ashlie Stwalley, and Raelynn Verquer at 1:10.93

Sixth in 1,600M Relay with Taylor Spady, Sahara Snead, Bailey Huffman, and Ashlie Stwalley at 5:02.38

Fifth in 800M Sprint Medley with Bailey Huffman, Fabiola Hernandez, Taylor Spady, and Ashlie Stwalley at 2:10.67

The boys also had a good showing. With a full team this year, the boys look to make some places, some noise, and aid the Trojans in their attack at meets.

Jesus Lopez:

Seventh in the 800M run at 2:23.17

Relays:

Eighth in 3,200M Relay with Isaac Fernandez, Ty Patton, Jesus Lopez, and Cori Bond

This week's only meet for the Trojans is in La Junta for the annual La Junta Open. Field events begin Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and running starts at 2:30 p.m.
