The McClave High School track and field team competed at the Holly Invitational Saturday, where a large number of individuals placed in the top eight in their respective events.

Gabe Longworth finished first in two events, including the 100 meter dash, finishing in 11.41, and the 400 meter dash, finishing in 52.25. Michael Vanek placed second overall in the 3,200 meter run in 14:22.84 while TJ Trujillo placed in two events including a third place run in the 400 meter dash in 54.79 and a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash in 25.53.

Nathan Andrade placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 18-07.5 and fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 36-01.5 and Junior Kiniston placed in two events, including a fourth place run in the 200 meter dash in 25.10 and a sixth place run in the 100 meter dash in 12.25. The Cardinal 4x400 meter relay team was fifth overall with a run of 3:55.6.

For the girls, Jeanette Steerman ran toward a first place finish in the 1,600 meter run in 6:02.79 and a sixth place finish in the 800 meter run in 2:53.83. Breanna Simonds was fourth in the 800 meter run in 2:42.29, as was Alyssa Forgue in the shot put with a toss of 33-00.5. Peighton Martin was sixth overall in the 300 meter hurdles in 57.43 and Shaylene Esquivel was eighth in the 100 meter run in 14.16.

The Lady Cardinal 4x200 meter relay team was sixth overall in 2:02.98 and the sprint medley relay seventh overall in 2:06.75.

The Cardinals will compete next on Saturday, April 26, in Springfield beginning at 9 a.m.
