With the 2014-2015 school year approaching, four new teachers have been hired at Las Animas School District.

Following are brief biographies of new teachers at Las Animas Elementary School, Las Animas Middle School and Las Animas High School.

Skye Sisson

What grade/subject will you be teaching?

Sixth grade

Are you new to Las Animas? If so, where did you most recently live?

Yes. I moved from Leadville, Colorado, although I grew up in the Springfield area.

Where did you attend college?

University of Northern Colorado

How long have you been teaching?

Eight years

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

The challenge of teaching a variety of students and learning how to meet everyone's needs to make growth.

What are you looking forward to most about teaching in Las Animas?

The positive teaching atmosphere and the abundant community support.

Hobbies

Playing basketball, volleyball, softball, water skiing, snowboarding and hiking.

Fourth grade

No, I have lived here going on six years.

Where did you attend college?

Southern Nazarene University

How long have you been teaching?

First year as a classroom teacher; five years as a paraprofessional.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I enjoy the growth that you get to see from each child.

What are you looking forward to most about teaching in Las Animas?

Having one classroom with one group of students.

Junior high math

Are you new to Las Animas? If so, where did you most recently live?

Yes, I am new to Las Animas. I previously lived in Springfield and taught in Walsh.

Where did you attend college?

West Texas State University

How long have you been teaching?

This is my 28th year.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

Seeing the kids every day and watching them grow emotionally and academically.

What are you looking forward to most about teaching in Las Animas?

Working with the staff and having access to all the great programs they are implementing here.

I am new to teaching in Las Animas, but I attended elementary at the old Columbian  Elementary School. I moved here from La Junta.

Where did you attend college?

Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. I graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo.

How long have you been teaching?

First year.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

I relate well to young people, so I am most looking forward to working with them.

What are you looking forward to most about teaching in Las Animas?

I hope to learn as much as I teach.
