The first thing they tell you in the Southeast Colorado Antique Vehicles Club is that you don’t have to own an antique vehicle to belong. You just have to like cars and not mind listening to people talk about cars. It is a very laid-back club and does interesting trips. That is, if you like cars, trucks, tractors, airplanes, anything that has or had an engine and moved.

The annual fall show was planned for the week after Early Settlers Day this year so that all the cars could be comfortably shown in their best showroom, on the roads winding through the La Junta City Park (itself a restored antique). They even had food vendors and an outstanding collection of dogs wandering through the show with their owners.

It was a beautiful sunny Colorado day in the shady, well-maintained La Junta City Park. The famous sitting walls were well occupied. Leonard Walgren, Jim Tiburon and others thanked the sponsors for the many appropriate prizes. Fifty-two vehicles participated in all, said Walgren.

Thanks go out to Wallace Oil, Ruby’s Auto Body, La Junta Auto Service, Valley Tire/Used Cars, Tri-County GM, Village Inn, Otero Junior College, Pizza Hut, Felisa’s, Sonic, Scaff Brothers, Little Caesars, Wendy’s, Walmart, Copper Kitchen, Big R, Car Quest, The Railyard, NAPA auto parts, Davis Auto Repair, Thyme Out Restaurant, ARK Valley COOP, R&S Auto Repair, Carr Buff, X-treme H2O, McDonald’s, Daylight Donuts, Jake’s Gym, The Lighthouse, La Junta Trading, Wittman Welding, First National Bank, local radio station, City of La Junta (for park use). “And anyone else we may have failed to mention,” said Walgren.
