The La Junta Lady Tiger swimmers opened the second half of their 2014-15 season Thursday evening in Tiger Gym pool with a relatively easy 114-71 dual meet victory over Pueblo West.

It was almost a clean sweep of blue ribbons. Lady Tigers won all three relays, seven of the eight individual swimming events plus the diving.

They finished one-two in both the 100-meter freestyle (Swink senior Leah Roberson and Lamar sophomore Katelyn Moore) and 400-meter freestyle (Rocky Ford freshman Lauren Medina and Lamar freshman Madison Buxton), and in diving (La Junta senior Faith Craig and Lamar sophomore Bryton Buxton.)

Coach Marty Roberson did some shuffling to her lineup, starting with the leadoff event.

In previous outings the Medley Relay team had been Lauren Proctor (back), Leah Roberson (breast), Savannah Tice (fly) and Las Animas' Bailey Huffman (freestyle), and had twice posted 4A State Qualifying times. Thursday night's shuffle had Tice leading off with backstroke, Proctor following with breaststroke, Roberson swimming butterfly and Huffman anchoring as before. The 2:15.57 Q time actually topped the mark the pre-shuffle had posted back on Dec. 4.

Other State Q times posted were by Tice in the 100-meter butterfly (she cut almost three seconds off her previous best time), Roberson in both the 100-meter freestyle (cutting two seconds off previous best) and 100-meter backstroke (first time entry in this event) and Proctor in the 100-meter breaststroke (her third Q time this season).

Next competition for the Lady Tigers will be this weekend (Jan. 16-17) when the squad will be split for two invitational meets. Varsity swimmers will travel to Pueblo County for the prestigious two-day Hornet Invitational. JV swimmers will be at Fountain-Fort Carson High School for the Trojan Invite.

Next home pool meet on the schedule will be Jan. 23 against Tri-Peaks League foe Fountain Valley.
