LAHS played both opponents to manageable first half deficits before being outscored by wide margins in the second half to fall big in each contest.

Last Tuesday against Swink, Las Aimas trailed by just one point entering the half, 25-24, but was then outscored 16-7 in the third quarter and 30-18 in the fourth quarter to lose the game 71-49.

Senior Matt Torrez played well in the losing effort with a team high 17 points. Josh Japhet and Caylan Garcia each added six points, Jacon Martinez four, Brandon Morlan four, Jaxson Spady three, Michael Lopez three, Josh Arrona two, Andrew Maes two, and Justin Dean one.

Dean added a team high nine rebounds and three steals.

Swink's Josh Rocha led all scorers with 27 points.

Friday evening in Rye, Las Animas again entered the half down marginally to the league leading Thunderbolts, trailing 29-18, but were again outscored by a wide margin in the second half, 23-7 and 20-6 to fall big, 72-31.

Again, Torres led the way for the Trojans with 14 points, despite shooting just eight attempts from the field. Dean added nine points, Garcia six, and Morlan and Mitch Garcia one point.

Torres pulled in seven rebounds and Dean had three steals.

Rye's Luis Ortiz scored a game high 16 points.

Las Animas (3-7) will remain on the road this Friday in Walsenburg as they take on John Mall beginning at 4 p.m. They will then make a quick turnaround against the Lions, this time at home as they host Swink Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
